Women, Infants, & Children Program (WIC)
WIC Program
The Women, Infants, and Children Program (WIC) is a special supplemental nutrition program offered through Hoke County Health Center designed to improve the health ofwomen, infants and children.
WIC Provides
- Healthy foods at no cost
- Nutrition education
- Breastfeeding information and support
- Referrals for healthcare and Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT)
Eligibility
In order to be eligible you must be one of the following:
- A pregnant woman
- A breastfeeding woman whose baby is under 1 year old
- A woman who has recently delivered
- An infant or child under 5 years old
You must have a health risk factor based on:
- Height and weight measurements,
- Blood test for low iron,
- Health history,
- Diet history
Additionally, you must be financially eligible.
- Medicaid, SNAP, and Work First recipients are qualified automatically.

The Hoke County WIC Program services approximately 1889 participants.
WIC Food Instrument Redemption
WIC food expenditures generate a monthly average of $87,666.30 in revenue for the nine Hoke County WIC Vendors.
During the NC state fiscal year of 2014-2015, Hoke County WIC Vendors redeemed WIC food instruments totalling $1,051,995.60.
Breastfeeding Services
- Private breastfeeding room for nursing mothers
- Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Services Program (Pregnant or breastfeeding participants who need individual assistance while breastfeeding their babies can join)
- Breast pump loans
