May 21, 2012 Regular Monthly Board Meeting
The Hoke County Board of Social Services will hold an open meeting on Monday, May 21, 2012 at 4:00 PM in the Commissioner’s Room located in the Pratt Building, 227 N. Main Street, Raeford, NC. The Hoke County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council anticipates funds from the Department of Public Safety Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention in the amount of $68,626 that was originally to allocated to a program that has now withdrawn from consideration for the fiscal year 2012-2013 beginning on, or after, July 1, 2012.
The use of DJJ funds in this county requires a 10% local match and will serve delinquent and at-risk youth in the following needed Programs: Teen Court, Interpersonal Skill Building, and Restitution/Community Service.
Proposed Program Services should target the following Risk Factors for Delinquency or Repeat Delinquency: Over a majority of youth are age 12 or older when 1st delinquent offenses is alleged in complaint; Youth have Moderate to Serious School Behavior Problems; and Youth sometimes and /or regularly associates with negative peers.
Programs should also address the following concerns as reported in the Needs Assessments for Adjudicated Youth: Peer Domain: Youth sometimes and/or regularly associates with delinquent peers; Individual Domain: Youth needs Mental Health assessment and/or further treatment; Family Domain: Lack/Inability of proper parental supervision; and School Domain: Youth have Moderate to Serious school behavior problems resulting in short and long term suspensions, expulsions and truancy.
Applicants are being sought that are able to address the following legislatively mandated items: 1. Program services compatible with research that is shown to be effective with juvenile offenders. 2. Program services are outcome-based. 3. The program has an evaluation component. 4. Program services detect gang participation and divert individuals Local public agencies, 501(c) (3) non-profit corporations and local housing authorities are invited to submit applications (Program Agreements) for programs addressing the above elements.

The Hoke County Health Department and Hoke County Farm Bureau are offering free health screenings and more at the Healthy Living for a Lifetime event. Screenings will be offered on May 16, 2012 from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM at Walmart, 4545 Fayetteville Rd, Raeford.
Screenings offered include Cholesterol, Blood Glucose, Blood Pressure, Body Mass Index, Bone Density, and Vascular Ultrasound. Educational materials, promotional items and refreshments will also be available.

The Hoke County Farmers Market will open on Saturday May 5, 2012. The Farmer Market features all locally grown seasonal produce, fruits, berries, herbs and flowers. Hoke County Master Gardeners will have rain barrels available as well as water conversation tips. Come out and meet your local farmers.

The Board of Elections Office One-Stop Site will vote at the Hoke County Administrative Office Building at 227 North Main Street in Raeford, North Carolina during the following dates and times:
- Thursday, April 19, 2012 through Friday, May 4, 2012 from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm
- Sunday, April 29, 2012 from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm
- Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 8:00 am until 1:00 pm
Puppy Creek
The Puppy Creek One-Stop Site will vote at the Matthew Rouse Community Center at 373 Pittman Grove Church Road (off Highway 401 North) in Raeford, North Carolina during the following dates and times:
- Thursday, April 19, 2012 through Friday, May 4, 2012 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm
- Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 8:00 am until 1:00 pm

Once the construction phase is over and sign ups are no longer allowed the cost of a tap will revert to the regular total price of $2,050.00.
Citizens residing in areas where new distribution lines will be installed are encouraged to contact the Hoke County Public Works Office for early application to receive reduced tap fees. The Hoke County Public Works office is located at 423 E. Central Ave, Raeford, NC.

TAKE NOTICE, beginning November 1, 2011 the Hoke County Tax Department will take part in the NC Debt Set-Off Program. This program will allow the tax department to intercept Income Tax Refunds and Lottery Winnings. All taxpayers are encouraged to bring all tax accounts current or make approved satisfactory payment arrangements before October 31, 2011.
