Hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. weekdays, except state holidays.

FAQs (Answers to some of the common questions that we receive in the Clerk’s office)

  1. Does the Clerk’s office have forms to file for divorce?  No, there are no state forms to facilitate filing for divorce.  One might want to seek the advice of counsel.
  2. Does the Clerk’s office have forms to file an action for temporary custody?  No, there are no state forms to facilitate filing a motion for temporary custody.  One might want to seek the advice of counsel.
  3. Can I change my name through the Clerk’s office?  We have name change packets to help with this process.  If all necessary parties consent, this might be done solely through the Clerk’s office.
  4. Can I adopt a child through a proceeding at the Clerk’s office?  Most necessary forms to complete an adoption can be found at www.dhhs.state.nc.us/dss/forms.  If all necessary parties agree, this might be done solely through the Clerk’s office.
  5. Will the Clerk’s office give me legal advice?  No, the law prohibits anyone at the Clerk’s office from giving legal advice.  We may explain things that are legal in nature, but may not advise you as to a course of action.
  6. Can I file a form to modify my child support?  Only a judge can modify child support, but you may file a motion to get this matter in front of the judge.  We have forms to fill out and will give you a court date to get this matter in front of a judge.
  7. Does the clerk’s office take debit/credit cards for payment?  No.  We only take cash or certified funds for payment.
  8. Does the clerk’s office take personal checks?  No.  We only take cash or certified funds for payment.
  9. Can I pay my ticket online?  Some tickets can now be paid online.  You may check www.payNCticket.org to see about your matter.
  10. Does the Clerk’s office issue passports?  No, the clerk’s office is not involved in the passport process.
