Building Inspections / Scheduling
The primary objective of the Hoke County Building Inspection Department is to provide adequate inspections and provide a service to ensure the public’s health, safety, and welfare.

No permits are issued after 4:45 p.m. Payment methods accepted include cash, check, or money order.

Review Process
A plan review program is in place to ensure that all buildings are in compliance with the state of North Carolina Requirements. The review is usually completed within the following time frame unless the work load is extremely heavy:
  • Single Family Residence - 1-3 working days
  • Commercial - 7-10 working days
  • Special or Large Commercial - as required

Submit two sets of Residential Plans.

Submit the following Copies of Commercial Plans for review to receive a permit:
  • Four complete sets of plans and one CD Disc in PDF format

The Inspections Department will review plans and return one copy.  Fire Marshal will review and return one copy.

Services Provided
The North Carolina Department of Insurance is responsible for setting the standards for licensing of building inspectors. The department publishes and interprets building codes. Hoke County enforces the building codes adopted by the state of North Carolina and rules and regulations adopted by Hoke County.

The Inspections Department provides inspections at several stages of construction in all trades: building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and insulation.

The Inspections Department enforces state and local laws, ordinances, and regulations relating to the construction of buildings and all technical codes.

The Inspection Department provides an open door policy to assist all customers and citizens with all questions and problems related with the enforcement to all applicable codes and ordinances.

Building Permit Exceptions
There are few exceptions to the requirement to get a building permit! Proceeding without the required permits will result in enforcement action, stoppage of work, and the securing the required permits. The cost of the permits will be double if the work was begun without permits.
