ARTS Coordinator Hired for Region 6 Counties

ARTS Coordinator

The Hoke County Health Department is proud to announce Ms. Deesha Connor, Active Routes to School (ARTS) Coordinator for Region 6. The following counties are in Region 6: Anson, Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, Lee, Montgomery, Randolph, Richmond, and Scotland. Ms. Connor will work with all 10 counties to increase the number of North
Carolinian's that meet the physical activity recommendations. The ARTS Coordinator will conduct assessments of the walk and bike to school efforts in all elementary and middle schools in the region and continue to work with regional partnerships or coalitions to coordinate Active Routes to School Interventions at the individual schools and at the county level.

Hoke County Health Department

The new Hoke County Health Department is a large modern facility with an area of 19,535 square feet. In this spacious building, employees provide premium health care services to individuals and families from babies to mature adults. The Hoke County Health Department hosts many meetings to unite community leaders on current health issues. Several health promotional activities, such as First Aid / CPR classes, Child birth education classes, and ADA Diabetes Self-Management classes are hosted at the health department throughout the year.

Staff and Services
The Hoke County Health Department employees consist of approximately 40 employees who work with local, regional and state health care professionals to provide an array of services annually. In addition to providing the mandated public health services, the Hoke County Health Department offers an adult primary care clinic that utilizes a sliding fee scale for self-pay patients. Also, a variety of wellness opportunities are offered to citizens throughout the county.
