RODERICK VIRGIL, SHERIFF
Roderick Virgil is a lifelong resident of Hoke County where he has been active in his community as a pianist at St. James Church, and helping out at the local family restaurant, Virgil's Drive-In. He is also an accomplished playwright having penned Too Many Jobs, a play hosted in Raeford and Fayetteville in 2016. In addition, Sheriff Virgil is the President/Chief Executive Officer of Quality Lawn Care, a business he began in Raeford in 2018. His professional career has seen him volunteering with the Hoke County Rescue Squad and Hillcrest Fire Department since 1999 and serving on the Hoke County Sheriff's Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) as a reserve deputy and tactical medic from 2009 to 2021. Further, Virgil is a rapid response paramedic, a critical care paramedic, and was the EMS Director/Systems Administrator for Hoke County from 2009-2011.
Sheriff Virgil is an experienced and dedicated public safety professional who has demonstrated expertise in Business, Leadership, Clinical Patient Care, Emergency Management, Fire Suppression and Law Enforcement Tactics and Operations. He studied Emergency Medical Technology in 1999 and Emergency Medical Science (Paramedic) in 2003 at Robeson Community College. Virgil subsequently received a Critical Care Paramedic Endorsement in 2006, and has received a Tactical Paramedic Endorsement. He has served with Robeson EMS, Cumberland County EMS, FirstHealth Hoke EMS, New Hanover Regional EMS. Virgil’s Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) took place at Sandhills Community College in 2010 and he became a board-certified Flight Paramedic in 2013. Roderick Virgil continued his commitment to public safety as he became sworn in as the Hoke County Sheriff in 2021.
