The Hoke County Sheriff’s Office announced on Saturday May 24, 2025, approximately at 1:30 pm Deputies and Detectives responded to a shooting at the 100 block of Payton Place. Hoke County Communications advised there was a male unresponsive in the area. Deputies arrived on scene and saw a male laying in the middle of the roadway suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim, Mr. Montague Baldwin, was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS. The victim’s next of kin was notified.
Mr. Laquan Harris of Lumber Bridge, NC has been charged with First Degree Murder. He is currently being held in the Hoke County Detention Center without bond.
