The Hoke County Sheriff’s Office on January 25, 2024 members of Hoke County Special Operations and Violent Crime Task Force, conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle being operated by Victor Manuel Velarde. The traffic stop occurred at the gas station located at 401 Business and Rockfish Road.
When detectives approached the vehicle a strong odor of marijuana was detected. Mr. Velarde, the front passenger who was identified as Peter Alvarez Jacobs, and two juveniles were asked to step out of the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle resulted in marijuana and a Glock .45 caliber handgun being located. Mr. Velarde and Mr. Jacobs also had marijuana on their persons. Both subjects were taken to the Hoke County Jail and arrest warrants were obtained.
Mr. Velarde was charged with PWISD Marijuana and Maintain a Vehicle for controlled substances. Mr. Jacobs was charged with carry concealed weapon and simple possession of marijuana. Both subjects were held on no bond due to pending charges.
On January 26, 2024 Mr. Velarde and Mr. Jacobs were taken before a district court judge at the Hoke County Courthouse for a bond hearing. Mr. Velarde was held on a $50,000 secured bond and Mr. Jacobs was held on a $10,000 secured bond.
