The Hoke County Sheriff’s Office announced on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at approximately 10:40 PM, Hoke County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the 500 block of Wayside Road near the intersection of Brock Road about shots fired. Before Deputies arrived in the area, a male victim arrived at Cape Fear Valley Hoke Hospital with a gunshot wound. The male was later pronounced deceased.
Hoke County Sheriff’s Office Detectives were contacted and responded to the scene.
During the course of the investigation, Detectives were able to identify a suspect in this case. Warrants were obtained against Manizah Ikey Capers for the charges of First-Degree Murder, Attempted First Degree Murder, Discharge of a weapon into occupied property, Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and felony conspiracy.
On February 6th, 2024, with the assistance of the US Marshals, Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, and Hoke County Violent Crime Task Force, Detectives took Manizah into custody. He was brought before a magistrate and given no bond with a first court appearance on February 7th, 2024, at the Hoke County Courthouse.
