Court House Security and Transportation Division

The Courthouse Security and Transport Division of the Hoke County Sheriff's Office provides a safe environment for judges, courthouse staff, and visitors of the Hoke County Courthouse. The Hoke County Sheriff's Office is responsible for the security of the courthouse, protecting the integrity of court procedures, and ensuring the rights of all individuals involved in the judicial process. In addition, the deputies serving at the courthouse provide a deterrence to those who would disrupt, disgrace, or act violently during court proceedings or toward individuals attempting to conduct business at the courthouse.

The Courthouse Security and Transport Unit is also charged with transporting people under the jurisdiction of the county and state, including inmates bound for hearings in other courthouses, inmates transported to other correctional facilities, and mental health patients transported to court hearings or to treatment facilities. In addition, the unit serves court-ordered summonses and completes writ transports (court-ordered appearances for prisoners held at Department of Corrections facilities).

There is one public entrance used to access the courthouse, which is located on E. Edinborough Avenue. Parking is available on the street or adjacent to the courthouse. All visitors entering the courthouse must be scanned via a metal detector and/or hand-held metal detector. All bags, purses, briefcases, wallets, etc., will be run through the x-ray machine. Any weapons will be seized and possible legal action will be taken upon individuals attempting to bring weapons into the courthouse.

No cell phones permitted.  No Handguns, pistols, rifles, ammunition, knives, blades, dirks, daggers, loaded cane, shuriken or other martial arts stars, cleavers, steak knives, butcher knives, loaded cigarette lighter, loaded lipstick, razor blades, brass knuckles, drug paraphernalia, illegal drugs, alcoholic beverages, hair picks, cameras (unless members of the media with prior approval), recording devices (unless used as evidence in a case or media with prior approval), glass bottles, toy guns, tools such as screwdrivers, ice picks, etc.) unless being used by maintenance personnel or handicap persons with tools attached to wheelchair. This is not an all-inclusive list. There may be other items that security determines to be unsafe and/or prohibited in the courthouse.

Court Security reserves the right to deny access to the courthouse for inappropriate, profane, or gang-related clothing.
